Actually, the scam has nothing to do with your bank account number, though
that is used to ensure that they have a real trusting sucker on the other
end.  The way it really works is that they constantly require money from
you to help pay for bribes and such like before they can get the money
out, which of course never happens.  If you do a search on Google, I think
you'll find this referred to as the "411 scam" (fraud is section 411 of
Nigerian Criminal Code or something).

IIRC, one westerner actually was killed by people running this scam a few
years back.  Often they get participants to actually fly over to Nigeria,
and they obviously enough killed the guy once he figured things out.
