As a varient on this, you could try booting into some version of linux
on floppies that has vfat and network drivers and whatever else you need.
Then mount the disk and rsync/scp/rcp/whatever the data somewhere.

Or maybe plonk a second drive into the box and dd (or equivalent) the
entire disk onto a new one with an ok boot sector.
