[ProgSoc] NT postscript printing problems
I am having trouble with a WindowsNT 4.0 print server using postscript
drivers.
On most machines it works fine. The problem is that printing doesn't
work from some other client machines. The result is a printout with just
a message saying:
ERROR: undefined
OFFENDING COMMAND: featurebegin
STACK:
There are no errors displayed on the machine trying to print or on the
server.
The postscript file being generated is causing the error. I know this
because I ran the generated postscript file (obtained from the spool
area on the server or by printing to a file on the client) through
Acrobat Distiller (which converts postscript files to pdf) and it gave
the same error. Running a postscript file from a working machine does
not give the error; it gives a pdf.
The machines which do work are running Win2k (3), WinXP(1).
The machines which don't work are running Win2k (1) and WinNT4.0 (1).
Thus it doesn't appear to be an operating system issue.
Some client machines are on different subnets, but I haven't made a
correlation between subnets and ability to print.
I don't know why some clients are generating postscript files which
cause the error. I assume that the postscript files are actually being
generated by the postscript driver on the server - but why would they be
different between clients?
I know there isn't much to go by here but I was hoping someone might
have experienced a similar situation.
Cheers,
Jay.
