TFM is a longstanding ProgSoc tradition. It is a compendium of the most useful things that any new person to the Unix world (and many less new people too!) should know. Chapters are contributed and have been heavily edited every few years.

What is it?
TFM, The Programmers' Society manual, is the definitive guide to all things computery at UTS. With something for everyone, it covers everything from reading email and using the Web to surviving Uni without dying of malnutrition. It's packed with everything you'll need to know about ProgSoc, UNIX, Linux, and the hundreds of arcane but incredibly useful applications that go along with it.
TFM has a long history. It started life in 1990 as a simple manual for getting around the (then-dominant) Sun systems at UTS. Since then it has undergone several rewrites and reprints. The current edition is the 2003/4 edition, which by today's standards is pretty out-of-date, which is why we intend on putting out a new edition sometime in the not-too-distant future!
It sounds absolutely fantastic, but I'm not 100% convinced it's for me.

How much is it?
To be decided. Selected deprecated editions may be viewed online for free (see below).
How can I get a copy?
We're all out of print copies of all editions in the ProgSoc room at the moment, excluding the copies on the shelf, which are for 'archival purposes' and are not to be taken from the room. For now, you can browse the deprecated editions online, or come to the ProgSoc room and browse the print editions (including the original Sun User Guide).
What exactly will be inside?
To be decided. A few ideas were bandied about at this year's AGM. It is envisaged that a lot of the old content will be retained, with a few chapters updated slightly and perhaps a few new chapters. Stay tuned!
